Hamis Kiggundu proves critics wrong as Nakivubo Stadium nears completion with a modern transformation
City tycoon Hamis Kiggundu, popularly known as Ham, is set to complete the redevelopment of the Nakivubo Memorial Stadium, which will transform it into a state-of-the-art sports facility. The stadium is expected to be a modern sports facility in Kampala and a legacy to develop the sports industry in the country.
The stadium redevelopment has been the talk of the town for years, with billions invested in the project. The new facility will have a sitting capacity of 40,000 spectators and three entrances to the gate, one of which will ply the facility from Ssebana Kizito Road and two gates along Kafumbe-Mukasa road above other emergency exits.
The redevelopment was aimed at exerting considerable ground-breaking creative efforts and excellent technical know-how that will enable the stadium to meet standards set by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), on top of being one of the best sports facilities in Africa.
According to Ham, the stadium project equally makes business sense, with incomes from the commercial premises attached. It will be a multipurpose stadium and home to various sports establishments, making it Kampala’s most famous and iconic ground.
Additionally, the stadium will have multi-level parking to accommodate over 1,000 cars, restaurants, gyms, and facilities for people with disabilities.
Ham aims to turn the Nakivubo Memorial Stadium into the best sports and entertainment complex in the region, and he is on track to not only complete the work in the shortest time possible but also make a statement about their capacity as Ugandans to do their best.
“We are almost done with the hardest bit of the stadium, which is the structure. What is left is to fast-track the completion of the work. I’m going to turn this place into an iconic venue,” he said.
Sports lovers in Uganda are eagerly waiting for the completion of the project, which will be a legacy to stay and develop the sports industry in the country.
